Maestro Media – which had a massive $6.7 million Kickstarter campaign for its latest spinoff project based on PC title The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls Requiem –is partnering with international consultant All About Games to distribute and localize the tabletop game beyond an initial 11 languages.

The All About Games relationship will allow Maestro projects including Four Souls Requiem to get into far more markets by tapping local relationships to make versions that are more likely to appeal to buyers in each country.

“They know the stores on the ground, the actual stores” in many international markets, said Maestro Media founder and CEO Javon Frazier. “The localization is true to the language, knowing the nuance of the language, which is great.”

Four Souls Requiem officially launches in 2022, in English, French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese, and five other languages, thanks to work by All About Games. The additional language versions have added $1 million in sales to the campaign so far, Frazier said.

Maestro has specialized in using Kickstarter campaigns to market test and finance spinoff merchandise of many kinds for notable online influencers, brands and others.

It builds on Frazier’s background in consumer products at Marvel and more recently Studio 71, where he first built the strategy to support creators in the video distributor’s stable of online influencers. Now, working with All About Games, his company plans on taking all its projects worldwide.

“We got into the (All About Games) relationship based on localization deals for Isaac,” Frazier said. “We started working with them and realized there were other things we can do together. For all Maestro projects going forward, we will have this globalization.”

For now, that encompasses about 10 projects, Frazier said, as the company continues to build out its distribution and funding model. All About Games also will localize previous Maestro titles, including games based on Netflix NFLX -2.2% series Umbrella Academy,as well as Tapewormand Sugar Heist.

The original Binding of Isaacvideo game was a roguelike dungeon-crawling PC title designed by Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl. It launched in 2011, and quickly became a cult favorite, spawning a hit sequel and two spinoff tabletop versions funded and marketed through Kickstarter campaigns run by Maestro Media. Now that second campaign is spreading its reach across the globe.

“We've always sold globally, but we always sold globally in the English language,” Frazier said. “The first game was a $3 million Kickstarter. We still had sales in France, Germany, both huge gaming markets, but they were buying the English-language versions of Isaac. We realized we could increase revenues by a third by going international.”

The Kickstarter for the second analog Isaacgame and related merchandise raised $6.7 million, making it not only one of Kickstarter’s most successful game campaigns but a top 20 fundraiser across all sectors.

The Kickstarter’s offerings included a $40 base game, as well as dozens of related SKUs, including plush toys, collectible figures, T-shirts and hats. The average order has totaled more than $140, Frazier said, with the line of products expected to generate more than $10 million in revenue.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Maestro Media to help expand and share their unique success story,” said All About Games Managing Director Cedric Delobelle. “They are entrusting us to help revolutionize their brand internationally and help guide and manage their global development, and we couldn’t be prouder to be on board with such a quality team.”
