In 2001: A Space Odyssey | The Board Game, players must fight to survive as HAL sabotages the mission to Jupiter. One player controls the malevolent HAL, while the rest of the crew works together to outwit the AI and shut it down in an exciting ‘1 vs. many format’. HAL doesn’t play fair—he’ll take multiple turns to wreak havoc on key systems. It’s up to the crewmembers, each with their own special abilities, to complete three logic sequences in the HAL Core and save the mission before it’s too late.

Very well designed game, beautiful-looking, well packaged, and the rules are very clear and easy to follow. The game isn't complicated and can be learned quickly. My one caveat is that it's too easy for HAL to win. HAL wins every time. The process of disabling HAL in the core is difficult to accomplish ONCE, and the players must do it THREE times! Yikes! But I do love the game, I'm pleased (and surprised) that it came out so well.

This game is super fun, and our game group loves it! It's a one-versus-many style of game, where one player is HAL, and everyone else is an astronaut.
Thematically, this feels true to the source material. Even the circular movement on the game board feels like you're on the Discovery. We've played multiple times. Sometimes HAL locks someone in the Pod and cuts off life support, and other times the astronauts sneak in a win, but each win feels earned. You can also play this game 4+ times in the time it takes you to watch the film. Our group also loved the little attention to details like the shiny bits of black on the astronaut standees and the monolith. Love Phil Walker-Harding's designs, and this is going in my permanent game shelf.
